Hannah at Eleven
This is my 11-year-old Hannah. Hannah is a sweet, special spirit that was sent to our family and we have been so blessed. She is easy going, kind, helpful, talented and smart. People who knew me as a little girl say she looks and acts just like I did. I see that too. She reminds me of my younger days. I love her so much. She is becoming a friend to me in addition to being my daughter.I am excited to see how our relationship develops over the next couple years.
Hannah:
likes pink and blue
loves reading
plays the violin and piano
loves art and swimming
can be found outdoors most of the time
is kind and respectful
loves to camp and spend time with her dad
is a mamma's girl
Happy Birthday Hannah
Yesterday was Hannah's 11th Birthday. We started the day off with the traditional DeKay family tradition of breakfast in bed. Then Hannah, Jack and I met grandma for an afternoon of shopping and lunch. Later Grandma and Grandpa arrived for dinner (meatloaf), presents and cake!
Hannah and I made this rainbow cake together. We had a great time working together. It is a white cake made from scratch with butter cream frosting. It turned out so beautifully. A beautiful cake for a beautiful girl.
Happy Birthday Hannah Joy DeKay.

Snowmachining The Placer River
This past Saturday we went with a group of friends to snowmachine along the Placer River to the Spencer Glacier. This is an area that is only open to snow machines every other year. I have been wanting to get out on the snow for a while and thought this would be a nice trip. I was enticed by picture of the gorgeous glaciers and snow tunnels we would encounter. Well, we didn't quite make it to our destination. I don't have breathtaking photos to post, but we had a great time!
We went with a group of 4 families for a total of 22 people. Jack was the youngest at 3 months. He rode with me in thee front pack and slept the whole time.
Bobby is a snow machining fanatic. He calls snow machines "rides". If you ask him if he wants to go for a ride there better be a snow machine or he will pitch a fit! He rode on the front of Robert's sled.
Winnie rode with me. We only tipped over twice!

All in the name of science...
Winnie wanted to participate in the school science fair this year. She decided that she would like to do an experiment with ice cream. After talking about it for a while she decided to test to see which flavor of ice cream would melt the fastest. Her hypothesis was that the vanilla ice cream would melt fastest and she was correct. It melted faster than chocolate by almost 5 minutes!
Her she did her project almost entirely by herself. The judge that evaluated her project wrote "Winnie very well explained her project and her thought processes along the way. Great presentation and interview!" As you can see her project won an honorable mention ribbon. She was so pleased!
